What is a no-scalpel vasectomy?
A no-scalpel vasectomy is a modern surgical technique for male steralisation that is less invasive than the traditional vasectomy procedure. Instead of making a large incision, the doctor uses a special instrument to make a small puncture in the scrotum. Through this opening, the vas deferens, the tube that carries the sperm from the testicles, is accessed and cut, tied, or sealed off to prevent sperm from reaching the semen.
What are the benefits of no-scalpel vasectomy?
The procedure has many benefits including:-
- Little to no downtime.
- Quick procedure taking 20-30 minutes.
- Fewer complications and quicker recovery than a traditional vasectomy procedure.
Is no-scalpel vasectomy painful?
The no-scalpel vasectomy procedure is a quick and almost pain free procedure, using a very fine needle to numb the skin. Our doctor will talk to you throughout the procedure to ensure you are put at ease and as comfortable as possible. After surgery you may experience a little discomfort, however many patients resume there normal daily duties almost immediately. It is advisable to take it easy for up to five days following the procedure and refrain from sexual activity for 10-14 days after surgery.
Will I be sterile straight away?
It will take a minimum of 20 ejaculations to clear any active sperm that are left in your system. You should use another form of birth control until you have had your semen tested and you receive the results that your semen is free from sperm. Semen will be tested 12 weeks following the procedure.
