Advice following minor surgery

The wound will have a water-resistant dressing. This needs to be kept in place and dry for 48 hours. You may then remove the dressing and treat the area as an open graze. You will have an area that is dark and dry where we have used the Hyfercator to cauterize the wound. Moisturise the wound along the scar twice a day to aid healing of the skin.

The wound will have a water-resistant dressing in place. This needs to be kept in place and dry for 48 hours. You may then remove the dressing at this point if you wish. If there is any bleeding, please apply firm pressure to the site. Direct pressure for 5-10 minutes should be adequate. If your dressings become wet, do not worry, please replace them as soon as possible, remove the dressing, tap dry the area and apply a new dressing.

If you notice pus or discharge from the wound this may be indicative of an infection. Please watch out for any increase in pain especially throbbing pain or any redness. Please contact us if there are any such concerns.

The wound may remain red and will slowly fade over the next few weeks or months. It can take up to 3-6 months for the wound to show its final appearance.

You may experience a small amount of discomfort as the local anaesthetic wears off. If you do, you may take paracetamol or ibuprofen as required.
